Heinous offenders can be sent to jail in excess of 14 years


The Supreme Court on Thursday put a question mark on attempts by NGOs and social activists for release of hardened criminals after 14 years in jail, popularly believed to be the span of a life-term, and said the state governments couldn’t release a convict if the courts awarded a term much in excess of that period while considering the nature of the crime and its perpetrators. http://goo.gl/4BQr1C
