Cliffs' Earnings Review: Lower Iron Ore Prices Negatively Impact Q2 Results
As expected, the company?s results were negatively impacted by lower realized iron ore prices. However, Cliffs? cost rationalization efforts helped offset some of the negative effects of a weak commodities pricing environment on the company?s results. Cliffs? adjusted EBITDA figure, which excludes the impact of one-time and non-cash items on the company?s profits, stood at $65 million in Q2 2015, as compared to $224 million in the corresponding period of 2014. Cliffs changed its reporting structure with effect from Q1 2015. It now reports its North American Coal division separately, since its coal mining operations constitute a part of its non-core operations, which it intends to sell.

Pandora's Q2 Results Showcase Its Survival Instincts
Pandora Media's shares increased almost 10% in after-hours trading, after it surprisingly trumped analysts estimates on Q2 2015 revenues and adjusted earnings. The company?s net revenues grew 30% year over year to $285.6 million, just ahead of the consensus estimate of $283 million. Pandora?s topline growth was mainly driven by a staggering 67% increase in its local advertising revenues, which has been one of the prime focus areas for the Internet radio company lately. In fact, it is local advertising for which Pandora has been building up its sales force over the past several quarters, and the recent results indicate that its investments have not gone to waste. The company has even raised its full year revenue guidance slightly to $1.175-$1.185 billion, from the earlier outlook of $1.16-$1.18 billion.

The Week Ahead: Can Your Portfolio Survive Earnings Season?
The stock market's reaction to a heavy week of earnings reports was not encouraging. It reinforces the view from last week that now was not time to jump back into the stock market despite the widespread bullishness. The drop this week is likely to reduce the bullishness but a tradable low for the overall market many be a number of weeks away.
The sharp gains on Monday were accompanied by signs that the rally was fueled by just a few stocks as I noted in Tuesday's Narrow Advance Warrants Caution. The technical weakness did not support the new highs in the Nasdaq 100 which ended the week down over 2%.
According to AAII 32.7% of individual investors are were bullish as of last Thursday with just 25.6% bearish. The largest group are neutral and overall there was little change in the sentiment last week. The CNN Fear & Greed Index dropped from 32 last week to just 12 this week. In August 2014 it did drop into single digit territory just a week before the market made its low.
So what can investors do to ride out the correction during earnings season?
